Answer- If Margie’s robot teacher began giving out wrong information, her family would most likely get in touch with the County Inspector again to sort out the problem. Margie could end up feeling really upset and confused because of the incorrect lessons, and she might start disliking the robot teacher even more than before.

Her parents would be concerned about how these mistakes could mess up her learning and might start thinking about different ways for her to learn until the robot teacher is fixed properly.

This whole situation would really show how much they depend on technology for Margie’s schooling and how important it is to have real people checking on things to make sure everything’s working right.

Answer- The story tells us about a robot teacher that can change how it teaches to match how fast or slow someone like Margie learns. This is really good because it means everyone can learn in their own best way.

But, it’s not all good. A good thing is that no one feels too slow or gets bored because the lessons are just right for them. But, there are bad things too.

When everyone learns by themselves, they might not make as many friends or learn to work together, which are big parts of going to school. Learning with friends teaches kids how to get along and solve problems as a team, which is super important in school and even outside of school.

1. What are the main features of the mechanical teachers and the schoolrooms that Margie and Tommy have in the story?

Answer- In the story, Tommy and Margie go to school in the year 2157, and their school is very different from what we know. They don’t go to a separate building for school. Instead, they have a room in their house where they find their school – it’s basically a TV-like robot teacher.

They have to learn all by themselves with this robot. The robot gives them tests to see how they’re doing and teaches them at a speed that’s supposed to be right for their age. When they finish their homework, they put it in a special slot on the robot.

If something goes wrong with the robot teacher, there are experts who come to fix it, but sometimes it takes a while to get it working again, like when Tommy’s history teacher stopped working. So, their schools with these robot teachers are really different from the schools we have today.

2. Why did Margie hate school? Why did she think the old kind of school must have been fun? 

Answer- Margie didn’t like school because it wasn’t fun. She had to study at the same time every day, except on weekends. She had no friends to study with or ask for help. Sometimes, her robot teacher broke down or gave her really hard tests.

Failing these tests made her feel bad. She often wished for a break, but in her time, 2157, there wasn’t much chance for that. Once, the County Inspector fixed her Geography lesson quickly.

She thought old schools sounded fun. In those schools, kids from around the place would come together in a big building, laughing and having fun. Kids who were the same age learned in the same room with real people as teachers.

They did everything together – studying, going home, and helping each other with homework. So, in the past, school let kids be together and grow up as friends.

Answer- Margie’s school in the story is not fun at all; it’s just about doing schoolwork. But today’s schools are much more fun. Kids leave their homes to go to school, playing and laughing along the way.

At school, they have a big yard to play in and talk with friends. They can share stories and help each other. The school day has time for fun, not just work. There are also fun activities that teach new things.

The teacher is a real person who brings all the kids together to learn. This way, kids learn to get along and help each other. So, Margie is right to think that schools today are more fun than her school.

Today was super cool! I saw an actual book with real pages that Tommy found in his grandpa’s attic. It’s old with about 200 pages, all yellow and crackly. The book is about a school from way back, like 200 years ago. Back then, school wasn’t at home but in a big building where all kids learned together. And they had real people as teachers, not robots!

Ans. No, I don’t think schools and teachers as we know them will ever become useless, even with all the new technology. Teachers do more than just teach stuff from books.

They help us understand right from wrong, show us how to be kind to others, and support us when we’re having a tough time. Plus, being in a classroom with other kids is really important. We learn how to work together, share, and make friends.

All of this can’t happen the same way with just machines and screens. So, even with new gadgets and ways to learn, real teachers and schools will always be important.

Q6. Can you imagine a school without teachers and books? Give your opinion based on the lesson ‘The Fun They Had’.

Ans. Old schools were different and interesting. They had their own buildings and kids from all over came to learn. In a class, everyone learned the same stuff and got the same homework, so they could help each other. Teachers were real people, not machines, and they used books made of paper.

Margie and Tommy found this really cool because it was so different from their own school with the robot teacher. Margie liked hearing about how kids back then went to school together, learned together, and could easily help each other out. She wished she could have that kind of fun and make friends like they did in old schools.

Q7. What is the role of a teacher in the life of a student? How is a human teacher better than a mechanical teacher?

Ans. Teachers play a very important role in the life of a student. They not only provide bookish knowledge but also inspire their students to live meaningful and successful lives. They burn themselves like a candle throughout their lives to remove the darkness and ignorance from their student’s life.

This can be done by a human teacher only. A mechanical teacher can provide ample knowledge on various subjects but he/she can not boost up their student to do something distinguished. A single mechanical teacher is having various sectors geared up according to the level of the child. There is no companion, no playground, and no fun at all.

The teaching is mechanical and monotonous. Thus human teachers are better than mechanical teachers in many ways. They know the individual intellect of their students which helps them to guide them individually according to the mental level of students.
