GRE is a standardized test created and administered by the Educational Testing Service (ETS) in 1949. The exam is considered as the requirement to get admitted into graduate, postgraduate, and Ph.D. programs in the United States, Canada, and other English-speaking countries including India.
GRE measures verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning, analytical writing, and critical thinking skills which are not related to any specific field of study. It is a computer-based exam administered at Prometric testing centers. The level of emphasis given to GRE in the admission process varies with various institutions.

Structure of GRE
The structure of the GRE revised General Test consists of six sections. They are as follows:
- Analytical Writing
2. Two verbal Reasoning Sections
3. Two Quantitative Reasoning Sections
4. An experimental or research section.

The first five sections may occur in any order. The paper-based GRE test is conducted at locations where computer-based testing is not available and the paper consists of six sections.
