Why does Anne want to keep a diary?
Anne Frank decided to keep a diary because she wanted a special place to express her thoughts and feelings. At the beginning of her diary, she mentions not having a real friend whom she could openly talk to about deeper things. This sense of loneliness prompted her to treat her diary as a friend, whom she named “Kitty.”
Anne’s diary became a safe place for her. She could explore her identity, share her fears, and talk about her hopes without being judged. Writing helped her manage the strong emotions and challenges of living in hiding.
