SSLC is an eligibility examination famous in several states of the country, particularly Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and Kerala.
The Indian Education System principally comprises 5 years of primary schooling, which is followed by 5 years of secondary schooling. An SSLC must be mandatorily obtained at the end of secondary school. When a student obtains this certificate, the student shall be deemed to have finished off his basic education or basic schooling.
A student desirous of further pursuing education may join a course on the specialization of their choice, which shall give him sufficient knowledge to enrol in a university course which is often known as a Pre-University Course (abbreviated as PUV) that lasts for two years.
After finishing this 12-year period of study, a student may enrol in a university for pursuing undergraduate studies or attend an industrial training institute for learning necessary skills for technical occupations.
There are other options available as well such as joining polytechnic to pursue a three-year-long course of a diploma in engineering followed by a degree course in the same field. There is also an option for enrolling in various vocational educational courses.
Nowadays, SSLC is also mandated for obtaining a passport for employment purposes. For a long time, the SSLC certificate was considered the primary proof for Date of Birth at the time when registration of death and births was not compulsory in the country. It is still a proof for the same for those who were born before the year 1989.
