Additional Information About AIEEE

AIEEE is conducted throughout India by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). This national level competitive exam has been introduced in the year 2002. The primary need for conducting this examination is to make the best and deserving students get admitted into various under-graduate engineering and architecture courses. Candidates (Students) who perform well and secure a good AIEEE score get admissions into various educational institutions like NITs and few of the IIITs in India. The admission is purely based on merit (AIEEE score). Every student who appears for this exam is given an All India Rank (AIR) as well as the State Level Rank (SR).

A pattern of the Exam

AIEEE exam has two papers. One for the B.Tech stream and the second for the B.Arch. stream. A student can select a single paper as well as both the papers.

Paper1, the B.Tech paper has three sections. The three sections are Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. Each section has 30 multiple choice questions with negative marking. Please do note that the pattern is not the same exactly as stated here. The pattern is subjected to change and has been getting changed at regular intervals of time. Generally, a student is awarded 4 marks for a correct answer and one mark is deducted out of the total score if the answer is wrong. This paper usually opts when the candidate wants to get admission in the B.Tech/B.E courses in the participating institutions.

Paper 2, the B.Arch. the paper has three sections. The three sections in AIEEE Paper 2 are Mathematics, Drawing and Aptitude. Mathematics and Aptitude Sections contain multiple-choice questions whereas the Drawing section contains the questions related to Drawing. This paper usually opts if the candidate wants to get admitted in the B.Arch. courses in the participating institutions.

Please note that AIEEE is replaced by JEE MAINS in April 2013. However, the time duration for both the papers is 3hours. The following are some of the instructions that should be followed by the students who are looking forward to taking AIEEE or JEE MAINS.

Candidates are not allowed to carry any textual material, calculators or other electronic gadgets like mobiles, tablets or laptops to the examination centre. Candidates should bring their hall tickets to the concerned examination centre. In case the candidate fails to bring the hall ticket, then he/she will not be allowed to enter into the exam hall. If the students follow illegal means of copying, then their candidature will be penalized and they won’t be allowed to further continue the examination.

Counseling

Ministry of Human Resource Development declares that 50% of the seats in NIT’s will be filled on the basis of the AIEEE SR ranks, i.e. the state ranks of the students will be considered first when that particular state has an NIT and the rest 50% of the seats will be filled on the basis of All India Merit Ranks (AIR). In case of IIIT’s, the seats are allotted based on All India Merit. The Central Counselling board co-ordinates the admissions to the under-graduate courses in the participating institutions. The preference is given based on reservations, i.e. the candidates belonging to SC/ST reservation categories are given the first preference and a percentage of seats are reserved for them.
