Ans:-                                       A FOOLISH MILKMAID

Ramkali was a poor milkmaid. She sold milk and earned her bread. But she had one bad habit. She dreamt of big things. Every time her vanity came in between her growing riches and simple life.

As usual one day she was going to the market to sell milk. The milk was in a pail (a pitcher). By placing the pail of milk on her head, she made for the town. On her way, she indulged in day-dreaming. She thought of big things in life. She began to calculate the ways and means of her growing rich. Her first plan was, “I shall buy a hen, with the sale of this milk. Then I shall get eggs from the hen. The hen will hatch eggs. The result will be healthy chickens. Those chickens will grow into strong roosters and hens. The roosters and hens will add to her income. She will become quite well-off. She will have money enough and to spare”. She went on thinking and thinking endlessly.

“The money would buy her a golden dress. She would put it on and would walk through the lanes and by-lanes. Many a young man of the villages would approach her and would ask for her hand in marriage. But she would not agree. She would toss her head in refusal”. She actually tossed her head. There came down her pail of milk on the ground. Her all hopes were dashed to the ground. She would have to go hungry that day. She began to weep bitterly. There was no end to her sorrows. The pail of milk with which she had built castles in the air, now lay in the dust.

Moral: Do not count your chickens before they are hatched.
