Ans:-                           THE HARE AND THE LION

A cruel lion killed the animals of the jungle every day. He killed so many. Naturally, it was a great loss to the animal kingdom. They decided some ways and means to get rid of this cruelty and indiscriminate killing. At the same time, they could not displease the lion— the king of the jungle.

They decided to have a meeting with the king of the forest. They requested the king not to kill them too many every day. For his food, one animal per day would reach him. The lion agreed. He saw that there was no sense in this too much unnecessary killing. After all, he needed an animal for his food. Rest of the meat was eaten by foxes and jackals.

As per the arrangement, the animals started reaching him one by one. The’ animals kept their promise very faithfully. The lion was happy and so were the animals. This contract went on working very smoothly. One day it was the turn of a hare. He did not reach the lion as per the condition. He reached him very late in the evening. The lion was very angry. He was awfully hungry.

When the hare arrived at his den, the lion gave a loud roar. The hare’s heart sank within him. He very humbly told the lion that he was late because another lion stopped him mid-way. Another lion, too, wanted to eat him. It surprised the king of the jungle. He could not believe that another more powerful lion could dare march into his land. He roared and enquired the whereabouts of his enemy. The hare walked ahead of him and took him to a well. The lion peeped into the well, saw his reflection, thought it to be his enemy and jumped. He got killed himself.

Moral: Cleverness pays.
