द नेकलेस एक औरत की कहानी है जो हमेशा शान-ओ-शौकत चाहती थी। उस औरत का नाम मतील्दा लोइसेल है। वह अपनी साधारण जिंदगी से खुश नहीं थी। जब उसे एक बड़ी पार्टी में बुलाया गया, तो उसने अपनी दोस्त मैडम फॉरेस्टियर से एक हार उधार लिया।

वह बहुत सुंदर दिखना चाहती थी। लेकिन पार्टी के बाद वह हार खो गया। फिर मतील्दा और उसके पति ने महंगा हार खरीदकर उसे बदला, जिससे वे दस साल तक कर्ज़ में डूबे रहे। बाद में मतील्दा को पता चला कि वह हार नकली था।

यह कहानी दिखाती है कि दिखावा और बेईमानी से परेशानी होती है और हमें संतोष और ईमानदारी से जीना चाहिए।

Monsieur Loisel (Matilda’s husband): He is simple, loving, and always tries to make Matilda happy.
