The topic for the debate is: ‘In the opinion of this house Value-Based Education is the only remedy for decreasing the crime rate amongst the educated folk.’ Write an article in not more than 200 words for or against the motion, giving arguments for your stand.
Ans:- REMEDY FOR DECREASING THE CRIME RATE AMONGST EDUCATED FOLK
During recent years there has been an alarming increase in the crime rate among educated folk. Every day we hear of educated youth involved in such crimes as eve-teasing, pocket-picking, thieving, lifting, robbing people and even killing them. That an uneducated rustic should commit a crime is something understandable, but what is the use of education if even an educated person indulges in unlawful and criminal acts? It only means that there has been something gravely wrong with the education of such folk. Their education has provided them facts but not ideas, knowledge but not wisdom, ability but not morality. The only remedy to my mind lies in making our system of education value-based. Students must be given moral education along with their formal education. They must be given lessons in the basic values of life — like honesty, truthfulness, love, patience, tolerance, co-operation, etc. — so that they become good, useful and law-abiding citizens when they grow up.
Last, of all, it would not be out of place to mention that the teacher must act as a role model because — as Gandhi said — it is possible for a teacher situated even miles away to affect the spirit of his pupils by his way of living. Thank you.
