Mrs. Packletide’s Tiger is a short story written by Saki. This story highlights the harms of envy. The central character of the story is a lady named Mrs. Packletide. She was a wealthy British woman who had great envy of her rival, Loona Bimberton. Actually, Loona recently gained public attention for hunting a tiger.

Mrs. Packletide gets disturbed by the success of Loona so she decides to go on a tiger hunt herself in order to outshine Loona Bimberton and gain even more fame than her. She hires a skilled hunter and arranges the event of her hunt.

मिसेज पैकलेटाइड लूना की सफलता से परेशान हो जाती है, इसलिए वह लूना बिम्बर्टन को मात देने और उससे भी अधिक प्रसिद्धि पाने के लिए एक बाघ का शिकार करने का फैसला करती है। वह एक कुशल शिकारी को काम पर रखती है और शिकार की घटना की अंजाम देने की व्यवस्था करती है।
Actually, the arrangements were made in a way that the whole hunting would be harmless for the rich lady Mrs. Packletide. The tiger arranged for hunting was old and therefore had very low strength, so it was quite easy to hunt it.
दरअसल, इस तरह की व्यवस्था की गई थी कि शिकार के दौरान अमीर महिला श्रीमती पैकलेटाइड के लिए कोई खतरा न हो। शिकार के लिए एक बूढ़े बाघ की व्यवस्था की गई थी इसलिए उसकी ताकत बहुत कम थी, इसलिए उसका शिकार करना काफी आसान था।
The old tiger was in the jungle and to attract him a goat was also arranged at the nearby place and Mrs. Packletide was sitting on an elevated platform to be the safest.
बूढ़ा बाघ जंगल में था और उसे आकर्षित करने के लिए पास की जगह पर एक बकरी की भी व्यवस्था की गई थी और श्रीमती पैकलेटाइड सबसे सुरक्षित होने के लिए एक ऊंचे मंच पर बैठी थीं।
On the day of the hunt, everything seemed to be going well. The old tiger came and Mrs. Packletide fired her rifle. The tiger was dead also but not due to her shooting. Actually, it died because of a heart attack, because it was so old.
शिकार के दिन, सब कुछ ठीक चल रहा था। बूढ़ा बाघ आया और श्रीमती पैकलेटाइड ने अपनी रायफल से फायर कर दिया। बाघ मारा भी गया लेकिन उसकी मौत गोली लगने से नहीं। दरअसल, इसकी मौत दिल का दौरा पड़ने से हुई, क्योंकि यह काफी बूढा हो चुका था.
Mrs. Packletide takes credit for killing the tiger very happily . Her best hunting companion Miss Mebbin observes that the tiger was not shot dead but died because of a heart attack.
श्रीमती पैकलेटाइड बहुत ख़ुशी से बाघ को मारने का श्रेय लेती हैं। लेकिन उसकी सबसे अच्छी साथी मिस मेबिन ने देखा कि बाघ को गोली नहीं लगी थी बल्कि उसकी मौत तो दिल का दौरा पड़ने से हुई थी।
At the same time, her shooting achievement was being celebrated. The villagers and the other workers were very happy. Photographs of Mrs. Packletide were published in 2 magazines. She also organised a party in her own honour. At the same time, Ms. Mebbin was making plans for how to threaten Mrs. Packletide.
साथ ही उनकी शूटिंग उपलब्धि का जश्न मनाया जाने लगा । ग्रामीण और अन्य कार्यकर्ता बहुत खुश थे। श्रीमती पैकलेटाइड की तस्वीरें 2 पत्रिकाओं में प्रकाशित हुईं। उन्होंने अपने सम्मान में एक पार्टी भी आयोजित की थी। लेकिन ठीक उसी समय, मिस मेबिन प्लान बना रही थीं कि श्रीमती पैकलेटाइड को कैसे धमकाया जाए।
The happiness of Mrs. Packletide did not continue for a long time. Soon Miss Mebbin started threatening and blackmailing her as per her plan. She demanded a huge amount of money to buy a weekend villa to keep her mouth shut.

Mrs. Packletide had to pay the amount and in the end, she regretted her foolish desire of gaining fame as a great hunter. At last, she realizes that her plan to outshine Loona was not good.
श्रीमती पैकलेटाइड को पैसे देने पड़े और अंत में, उन्हें एक महान शिकारी के रूप में प्रसिद्धि पाने की अपनी मूर्खतापूर्ण इच्छा पर पछतावा हुआ। अंत में, उसे पता चलता है कि लूना को पछाड़ने की उसकी योजना अच्छी नहीं थी।

The story highlights the darker side of false fame on the basis of money. Actually, there have been British colonialism in India, where native wildlife and people were often exploited for personal gains. The story also highlights the dangers of envy, greed, and the high price of social status.
