All living beings have a right to live on this earth but very often we become totally insensitive to their pain, only because animals cannot speak the language of humans, they do not have a voice. We are human because we have a heart and mind of our own and, above that, we have a voice to express ourselves. But in showing cruelty to these mute and dumb animals we lose all our humanity.
The plight of stray dogs is a common sight in any country. It is of utmost cruelty to let them roam around the streets, and let them eat garbage dumped on the roadside, exposing them to being hit by fast-moving vehicles and also by shopkeepers whose goods they destroy. People cruelly hurt these animals without even realizing that they too feel pain. The big question is, do animals have a right to live well? Many animal rights activists have raised their voices but these voices are too weak to be heard.
We set to have forgotten that we are surviving on the ‘food chain’ and animals are part of it. The entity human civilization will have to pay a price, for the damage that our actions cause to the ecological balance.
This is the time to have strong laws for protecting the rights of animals and saving them from man’s greed and selfishness. Animal testing for cosmetics and medicines should be totally banned. An organization like PETA needs to be supported for its efforts. Above all, in schools, students need to learn how to respect the rights of other living beings and love all the creations of Nature.
Parents also need to make their children sensitive to the pain our actions may cause to these animals. We need to act now so that no other animal is beaten to death by anyone looking for fun.
