Mrs. Pumphrey is a wealthy and loving woman who deeply cares for her pet dog, Tricki. She has a kind heart and is very affectionate towards Tricki, treating him almost like a child. Her love for Tricki, however, leads her to spoil him excessively. She gives him too much food and treats, thinking it shows her love and care.

Mrs. Pumphrey is not very practical when it comes to Tricki’s health. She overfeeds him with rich food like cream cakes and chocolates, which makes him very fat and unhealthy. She also gives him extra supplements, believing they are good for him. Despite Mr. Herriot’s advice to cut down Tricki’s food and increase his exercise, Mrs. Pumphrey finds it very hard to say no to Tricki.
