Awards for Bravery :Soumya also learnt about important awards. The Param Vir Chakra (PVC) is the highest gallantry award. Other awards are Maha Vir Chakra (MVC), Kirti Chakra (KC), Vir Chakra (VrC), and Shaurya Chakra (SC). She came to know about Major Somnath Sharma, who received the first PVC after the Battle of Badgam in 1947.
Story of Lance Naik Albert Ekka :The teacher told them the story of Lance Naik Albert Ekka. He fought bravely in the 1971 war at Gangasagar. Even after being seriously wounded, he destroyed enemy bunkers. He died but helped India win. His bravery made Soumya emotional and gave her the dream to join the Army.
Amar Jawan Jyoti and Its Meaning :Soumya visited Amar Jawan Jyoti too. It is a flame that keeps burning day and night to honour the soldiers. Sadness and Pride :Soumya spent the full day at the Memorial. She felt proud but also sad about the heavy loss caused by wars. She decided to live a life worthy of the soldiers’ sacrifices. Her class decided to make presentations about brave soldiers. Soumya chose to talk about Major Padmapani Acharya, who fought in the 1999 Kargil War and received the Maha Vir Chakra.
Ananda’s Reply :Ananda replied with happiness. She praised Soumya’s detailed letter. She agreed that memorials are not just statues but signs of gratitude. Ananda remembered her own visit to a War Memorial in Chandigarh on National Martyrs Day.
