Ans:-                                       MONEY MAKES THE MARE GO

Once there lived an old man. His name was Mathu Ram. He was very selfish and greedy. Whosoever asked him for charity or alms he always pretended to be stone deaf. But in reality, this was not the case. The truth was otherwise.

One day a poor beggar passed his gate. He begged for food. He was very hungry. He begged again and again but Mathu Ram kept mum. He pretended to be hard of hearing. The more the beggar cried, the more careless Mathu Ram became. After trying his best to persuade the greedy old man to give him something to eat, the beggar failed but the selfish old man did not soften. At last, he went his way cursing the old man. Even then the old man kept quiet.

After some time a small boy passed from there. He was too small to find out his way. He had lost his address. He was weeping bitterly. He requested Mathu Ram to help him find out the correct address. The tiny boy was a total picture of pity but the stone-hearted Mathu Ram did not utter a word. He kept pretending to be deaf.

After a few days, a pet dog with a golden collar passed that way. Mathu Ram saw him going before his eyes. The rich owner of the dog also rode that way on the back of his horse. He asked Mathu Ram about his dog and promised a reward of fifty rupees to him if his clue led to the recovery of the dog. The old man at once opened his mouth and told everything about the dog. His behaviour was like a perfect hearing man. Now he did not pretend to be hard of hearing. Here the reward of fifty rupees was involved.  The dog was found and, the old man rewarded. Thus Mathu Ram who was deaf to the needy and the helpless was a perfectly normal hearing man to the rich.

Moral: Money works wonders.
