Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) Civil Service Exam is divided into three phases:–
Phase 1:- Preliminary Examination (Objective Type)
Phase 2:-Mains Examination (Subjective Type)
Phase 3:-Personality Test (Personal Interview)
Phase 1:- Preliminary Examination has two papers
Paper I – General Studies (GS) – Total marks 200 – Duration 2 hours
Paper II –Civil Services Aptitude Test (CSAT) – Total marks 200 – Duration 2 hours
Phase 2:-Mains Examination

History:-
The establishment of first service commission on 1 October 1926 under the chairmanship of Sir Ross Barker. The limited advisory function was granted to the public service commission and the leaders of the freedom movement continually stressed this aspect, which then resulted in the setup Federal Public service Commission. The Federal Public service commission’s become the Union Public Commission after independence. It was given status under of Constitution of India 26 January 1950.
