Variations of LOL

One variation of LOL is lul, which is LOL’s phonetic spelling. Another initial frequently used instead of LOL is lolz. For denoting laughter at a prank victim or a reason for an actor’s performance, lulz is used. The image boards of 4chan and the Encyclopedia Dramatica frequently use this variation. An article in the New York Times stated that the meaning of lulz is the joy of interfering in the emotional equilibrium of another person. This initiative can be utilized as a noun too. For example, ‘Do this activity for ftlulz.” Here, ftlulz denotes for the lulz.

The lolwut and lel are also variations of LOL. In lolwut, but is the short form of ‘what’, and hence, lolwut is used for indicating confusion or bemused laughter.
