EXERCISE -11

 Change the form of the narration:

1. I asked the hostess, “What is in these pots?”

2. “I’ll make tea for you,” said the Maori woman.

3. “What is that for?” I asked.

4. I said, “What a beautiful Church!”

5. I wanted to know, “Isn’t it dangerous to live here at all?”

6. He said, “Let us see what these are!”

7. “She is going to be ill,” cried Peterkin.

8. “There go the soldiers”, said Peterkin.

9. He asked me, “What has that bird got under its tail?”

10. “Do you think they are kind, Jack?” said Peterkin.

ANSWERS:

1. I asked the hostess what in those pots was.

2. The Maori woman said that she would make tea for me.

3. I asked what that was for.

4. I exclaimed with surprise that it was a beautiful church.

5. I wanted to know if it was not dangerous to live there at all.

6. He suggested that they should see what those were.

7. Peterkin cried that she was going to be ill.

8. Peterkin said that there went the soldiers.

9. He asked me what that bird had got under its tail.

10. Peterkin asked Jack if he thought they were kind.

 Change the form of the narration:

1. They said, “Alfred was born in a powder magazine.”

2. One paper wrote that Alfred was an evil genius.

3. The writer said, “Alfred Nobel was born in 1833.”

4. He thought where the money was to come from.

5. He said, “Five of these prizes are awarded every year.”

6. “Mother, may I ask someone to tea?” asked Susan.

7. The mother said to Susan, “You may call someone to tea.”

8. “Can I come to see it. Susan?” said one of the girls.

9. Margaret said to her, “Ask whoever you like.”

10. The teacher asked Susan if she had an excuse to offer.

ANSWERS :

1. They said that Alfred was born in a powder magazine.

Or

They said that Alfred had been born in a powder magazine.

2. One paper wrote, “Alfred is an evil genius.”

3. The writer said that Alfred had been born in 1833.

4. He thought, “Where is the money to come from?”

5. He said that five of those prizes were awarded every year.

6. Susan asked the mother if she might ask someone to tea.

7. The mother told Susan that she might call someone to tea.

8. One of the girls asked Susan if she could come to see it.

9. Margaret told her to ask whoever she liked.

10. The teacher said to Susan, “Have you any excuse to offer.”
