MEANING

Said the Duck to the Kangaroo,

“Good gracious! how you hop!

Over the fields and the water too,

As if you never would stop!

My life is a bore in this nasty pond,

And I long to go out in the world beyond!

 I wish I could hop like you!”

Said the Duck to the Kangaroo.

The Duck praised the Kangaroo about the way he hops over fields and water. She also said that his joy had no end but her life was boring in the nasty pond. Besides, she had already spent half of her life. Now her desire was only to hop like her friend, the Kangaroo.

“Please give me a ride on your back!”

Said the Duck to the Kangaroo.

“I would sit quite still, and say nothing but `Quack,

The whole of the long day through!

And we’d go to the Dee, and the Jelly Bo Lee,

Over the land, and over the sea;

Please take me a ride! 0 do!”

Said the Duck to the Kangaroo.

Said the Kangaroo to the Duck,

“This requires some little reflection;

Perhaps, on the whole, it might bring me luck,

And there seems but one objection,

Which is, if you’ll let me speak so bold,

Your feet are unpleasantly wet and cold,

And would probably give me the roo-Matiz!” said the Kangaroo.

The Duck requested the Kangaroo to give a ride on his back. She also assured her friend that except ‘Quack’, she would do nothing. They — the Duck and the Kangaroo — would go to the see and the Jelly Bo Lee as well as over the land and sea. Repeatedly, the Duck requested the Kangaroo to give her a ride.

The Kangaroo replied that he needed some time for reflection. Perhaps her idea was good because it could bring luck for their friendship. But the unpleasant wet and cold web of the Duck was the problem for him. Probably he could not feel comfortable with them.

Said the Duck, “As I sat on the rocks,

 I have thought over that completely,

And I bought four pairs of worsted socks

Which fit my web-feet neatly.

And to keep out the cold I’ve bought a cloak,

And every day a cigar I’ll smoke,

All to follow my own dear true Love of a Kangaroo!”

The Duck said that sitting on the rocks she deeply thought over the problem. She had found a solution. She had bought four pairs of worsted socks to fit her web-feet healthy. Moreover, she had also bought a cloak to keep her out of the cold. She would smoke a cigar every day to please her friend — the Kangaroo. The Duck assured her friend that she would follow her orders like a true friend.
Said the Kangaroo, “I’m ready!

All in the moonlight pale;

But to balance me well, dear

Duck, sit steady!

And quite at the end of my tail!”

So away they went with a hop and a bound,

And they hopped the whole world three times round;

And who so happy — 0 who, As the Duck and the Kangaroo?

The Kangaroo accepted the proposal and decided to set on the world tour in the moonlight. He also directed the Duck to sit quietly at the end of his tail. Then, they hopped the whole world three times. At the end of their tour, they were very happy and excited.

Duck and Kangaroo Poem Introduction

 This is a humorous poem. This poem does not make any sense but gives a great of reading the language in poetry. This is a dialogue between a good Duck and a friendly Kangaroo. The Duck requests the Kangaroo to give him a ride on his back. The Kangaroo is willing that he requires some reflections. The Duck tells him everything frankly and then they enjoy a ride around the world three times.

Duck and Kangaroo Poem Introduction

“The Duck and the Kangaroo” is a humorous poem which falls in the category of ‘Nonsense Verse’. It is composed in the form of a dialogue between two animal friends. Though the episode is unusual and unreal, it is still enjoyable because it appeals to our imagination, curiosity and a sense of the music of words. We are amused to visualize a Duck perched on the tip of a Kangaroo’s tail and the Kangaroo hopping all over. The comic element of the poem is enhanced as the Duck and the Kangaroo both discuss their situation very seriously. Another noteworthy quality of the poem is its perfect craftsmanship and musicality.
