Ans.                                                    Discriminatory Treatment to Females

                                                                                                                                                                 Bimla/Rimla

All that is old may not be gold. All our traditions and old practices don’t stand the test of times. Our treatment of women in the past brings us no glory or honour. The truth bites us. Indian society has never been liberal and generous towards females. Unfortunately, this discrimination continues in one form or the other even now. We have been quite hypocritical in showering praises on women. However, in practice, we have e been very cruel, insensitive and inhuman to them. The evil practices of ‘Saul’, ‘child-marriage’ and polygamy. Dowry and bride-burning continue unabated. The reason for these cruelties is the discriminatory’ treatment of the parents towards the female child. The birth of a male-child is an occasion for a celebration. On the other hand, the birth of a girl spreads a pall of gloom. Foetus-killings are quite common in a society which worships women as Durga’ and ‘Kali’. Many conservative sections don’t send girls to schools. Lakhs of female children are deprived of their basic rights. Their share in the property is conveniently neglected and dismissed.

Legislation passed for women remain merely dead words. The Dowry Act, The Marriage Act, The Property Act should be enforced strictly. Eve-teasing and sexual harassment of women should have no place in a civilized society. There should be no discrimination in the wages of men and women. Education up to class XII should be free for all the girls. Reservation in jobs and legislatures must become obligatory and legal.
