Many countries including India, are going through a revolutionary change in food habits. This change is associated with a decreasing physical activity leading to obesity. Obesity in school children is becoming a major problem in many developing countries including India, as a result of the changing lifestyle in these countries.

 Obesity and overweight are major risk factors for a number of diseases, including diabetes, cardiovascular diseases and even cancer. These problems affect children not only physically but even mentally. Obese children find it difficult to take part in extracurricular activities. This affects their overall development. The modern lifestyle leaves very little time for physical exercises or sports activity. The paradigm changes in dietary practices, affect physical fitness of people like fast food products like pizza, burger and French fries have a high level of fat and fuel obesity.

Obesity is not just a health problem but also that of lifestyle. This affects not just the individual suffering from it, but also works on a larger level, the economy, as the work efficiency is decreased leading to missing deadlines and loss of time and money. It is not that obesity can’t be cured. However, things can change only when people take a more healthy way of life, by eating a balanced diet and exercising regularly.
