Short Summary of the Poem: The Kite
This poem is about a kite flying high in the blue sky.
When the kite is new, it looks bright and colorful. It moves up and down in the air with a dive and a dip, and its tail snaps in the wind.
Then the kite soars high, just like a ship with a sail. It rides on the strong wind and goes up to the top of the breeze. When the wind becomes weak, the kite seems to rest.
When the string becomes loose, we pull it back and run fast until a new wind blows again. Then the kite rises up once more.
But when the kite gets old or torn, it looks ragged and sad, especially if it gets stuck in a tree.
This poem shows the joy of flying a kite and how its beauty changes with time and wind.

Detailed Summary of the Poem: The Kite
1. The New Kite in the Sky: The poem begins by talking about a bright new kite. It looks very beautiful against the blue sky. The poet says, โHow bright on the blue is a kite when itโs new!โ This means when a kite is just made and is fresh, its colors shine in the sky. Everyone enjoys flying a new kite.
2. Flying Movements of the Kite: The kite does many fun movements in the sky. It dives and dips, which means it goes down quickly and then comes up. Its tail snaps, making sharp movements in the wind. These actions make it look lively and full of energy. The poet uses simple words like โdiveโ and โdipโ to describe this fun motion.
3. Soaring Like a Ship: The poet then compares the kite to a ship with a sail. This is a simile. A kite moves smoothly in the sky like a ship floats on water. Just like the ship sails with the help of wind, the kite also rides over tides of wind. It moves up to the crest of a gust, which means the highest point of the wind. Then, when the wind slows down, the kite seems to rest in the air.
4. Pulling Back and Flying Again: When the string becomes loose, the flyer pulls it back by winding the string. Then, they run quickly to catch the next breeze. As soon as a new breeze blows, the kite rises again. Its wings fill with air, and it flies high in the sky once more.
5. A Torn and Ragged Kite: In the last part, the poet shows how the kite changes with time. If the kite gets old or torn, it looks ragged. It no longer flies beautifully. It might even get stuck in the top of a tree and hang there sadly. The poet says, โa raggeder thing you never will see.โ
6. The Message of the Poem: It shows the joy of flying a kite. It also reminds us that things look best when they are new and cared for. The poem is full of fun words, rhyming lines, and happy feelings.
