EXERCISE-13

 Change the form of the narration :

1.”Hold your tongue,” said the Sergeant.

2. He reported, “The trucks are ready to move off

3. He said to Brown, “Get him to this old base camp by ten o’clock.”

4. He said to them, “Tell Corporal Shanton to take six men.”

5. The Colonel said thoughtfully, “This is a tempting idea.”

6. The king said to Columbus, “Can you moderate these terms?”

7. Columbus said to the king, “I think they are reasonable.”

8. The king said to Columbus, “Leave these maps with my secretary.”

9. The courtier asked Pedro, “Has Columbus passed this inn?”

10. Pedro said to the courtier, “He is leaving at this moment.”

ANSWERS:

1. The Sergeant asked him to hold his tongue.

2. He reported that the trucks were ready to move off.

3. He told Brown to get him to that old base camp by ten o’clock.

4. He asked them to tell Corporal Shanton to take six men.

5. The Colonel said thoughtfully that that was a tempting idea.

6. The king asked Columbus if he could moderate those terms.

7. Columbus told the king that he thought they were reasonable.

8. The king asked Columbus to leave those maps with his secretary.

9. The courtier asked Pedro if Columbus had passed that in.

10. Pedro told the courtier that he was leaving at that moment.

EXERCISE -14

 Change the form of the narration:

1. Pasteur said, “I don’t understand this.”

2. “Wait a minute,” he said to his assistant.

3. Pasteur exclaimed, “I have a feeling we are on the wrong track.”

4. Pasteur said, “What works for dogs may not work for human beings.”

5. Pasteur asked him if he thought he dared go abroad.

6. Mihir Sen said, “The idea of swimming the Palk Straits did not occur to me until after I had swum the English Channel.”

7. Mihir Sen said, “The call of the sea has always found an echo in me.”

8. He said, “Here lies the real terror.”

9. “Words will never adequately describe my feelings,” wrote Mihir Sen.

10. Mihir Sen said, “I have taken the poor man’s way out.”

 ANSWERS:

1. Pasteur said that he did not understand that.

2. He advised his assistant to wait a minute.

3. Pasteur exclaimed that he had a feeling that they were on the wrong track.

4. Pasteur said that what worked for dogs might not work for human beings.

5. Pasteur said to him, “Do you think you dare go abroad?”

6. Mihir Sen said that the idea of swimming the Palk Straits had not occurred to him until after he had swum the English Channel.
