Fleecing of Tourists
Bombay

The Director,
Maharashtra Tourism,
Bombay.
Madam,
Tourists from abroad bring valuable foreign revenue to our state. Special care should be taken to ensure a safe and pleasant visit for them.
Unfortunately, many cases of fleecing and fraud have come to light. A friend of mine, Calliope Mastrionmi arrived from Rome a fortnight ago. When he landed at our house in Juhu from the Sahar Airport, we found he had overpaid the taxi by Rs. 200/- Not being conversant with our currency, he was duped. After a week’s visit through various Bombay sights, he complains of other such unpleasant experiences. He was once taken on a ride through a city section which covered 10 kms when the short-cut was hardly 2 kms!
Naturally there are many other foreign tourist like my friend who go back home with an unpleasant impression. Should this tendency not be checked immediately, our tourist traffic will dwindle considerably.
Yours sincerely,
Raj Madhok,
