52.English Essay Example on: The Independence Day

The Independence Day

Our Independence Day falls on the 15th of August every year. The Prime Minister of India takes the salute on this day. He unfurls the National Flag on the rampart of the Red Fort.

Preparations for this great day begin months ahead of the actual day. Glimpses from the History of India are depicted colourfully. Especially our struggle for freedom is worth-watching. People from far and wide visit the Capital city. They come in millions to see the glory of Delhi which is called the heart of India. School children have a special contribution to this gigantic (very big) celebration. They join the public march in their colourful dresses. The bands of Army, Air Force and the Navy play special tunes. The foreign dignitaries add to the charm of the function.

The Red Fort is the main venue of the total function. It is beautifully decorated. The leaders in their ultra-white (excessively white) dresses throng the audience. After unfurling of our National Flag, the Prime Minister addresses the nation. He highlights India’s great achievements. His main thrust is on our failures and successes. He also pilots the nation by declaring his programmes and policies. His speech is followed by the singing of our National Anthem.

The whole function is brief and compact. It is full of solemnity. Many more functions are arranged all over India. In the Capital cities of the States of India, the Chief Ministers do the job of hoisting the flag. Receptions are held. Great men and women who laid down their lives for the freedom of India are tearfully remembered. Floral tributes are paid to them, leaders like Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal, Patel and Subhash are fondly remembered. This great day has come owing to their noble sacrifices. They gave away their comforts for our happiness.

It becomes our sacred duty to follow their ideas and teachings in letter and spirit. We attained freedom on 15th August 1947. Since then this national day holds a special significance. It reminds the Indians of the great struggle which Bal, Pal, Lal and Vir Savarkar undertook heroically. They drove away from the English from this sacred land of ours.
