It was clear that to climb Annapurna the right men had to be sufficiently high up on the mountain to make their attempt on the peak while still fresh and strong. To ensure that, a chain of high camps must be established and the greater part of the work done by the Sherpa’s, so that the Mountaineers would not tire themselves before they were in a position to attack the peak.
