Sachin Tendulkar
A stellar personality in the domain of cricket was born on April 24, 1973, in Mumbai. He was named Sachin Tendulkar. Tendulkar was born with a flair for cricket. He idolised the cricketing legend, Sunil Gavaskar. This he did at the tender age of eleven at Shivaji Park in Central Mumbai. He was coached by Ramakant Achrekar and in 1988, the whiz kid caught the fancy of the cricketing circles of the country.
He, with his school-mate Vinod Kambli from Shardashram Vidyamandir, broke the 74-year-old world record to establish an unbroken third wicket partnership of 644 runs. Later he capped his performance with another unbeaten triple century, thereby, knocking at the doors of first-class cricket.
On 24 May 1995, at the age of 22, Tendulkar married Anjali, a paediatrician and daughter of Gujarati industrialist Anand Mehta and British social worker Annabel Mehta.
He has recently been awarded ‘Bharat Ratna’: the highest honour of India. He earned name and fame in Indian cricket and broke the world record by his invincible skill. He has voluntarily accepted retirement from this sport and made an entry in the field of politics on the basis of his study of the social structure in India.
Sachin Tendulkar is the leading run scorer in Tests, with 15,921 runs, as well as in One-Day Internationals, with 18,426 runs. He is the only player to score more than 30,000 runs in all forms of international cricket, Tests, ODIs and Twenty20 Internationals.
Tendulkar has made history not just by his game, but with his gentle demeanour too. He always walked away with dignity to the pavilion when he was out. He never showed dissent at the umpire’s decision and was never seen or heard mouthing foul words. All Indians are proud of the master blaster, Sachin Tendulkar.
