BPL Full-Form stands for Below Poverty Line. BPL is a poverty limit and economic benchmark used for indicating economic disadvantage in a nation. The Indian Government uses this concept for identifying households and individuals that require government aid and assistance. Numerous parameters are used for determining BPL. These parameters can differ from one state to another, and can also vary within the same state. A survey that was conducted in the year 2002 formed the criteria used today. Globally, an income of one dollar or less per day is regarded as extreme poverty. If this estimate is taken into consideration, nearly thirty-two per cent of the Indian citizens are extremely poor.

The poverty line based on income usually considers the minimum income for providing basic requirement like food.
