PUC — Pre University Course

PUC Full-Form refers to Pre-University Course. PUC is an intermediate course for the period of two years that is organized by state education boards or institutions in India. It stands for Pre-degree course or the Plus-two or the Intermediate course. A person who desires to seek admission PUC Full-Form | What is Pre-University Course (PUC)to an Indian university has to qualify this course that can be regarded as a bridge course preparing students for university-level education. Admission to PUC is on the basis of the scores obtained for the purposes of the Secondary School Leaving Certificate (HSC) awarded upon the completion of five years primary schooling, which is followed by five years secondary schooling.

The Indian System of Education observes the 10+2+3 pattern and thus, a typical Bachelor’s degree mandates a minimum of 10 years schooling, along with two years of PUC. Colleges that offer PUC courses are called Junior Colleges or PU Colleges. For instance, Karnataka organizes the examination at the culmination of the second year of a PUC for the purposes of university admissions. This comprises three programs with the option to focus on commerce, science, and arts. Students who desire to pursue professional programs in the state of Karnataka must qualify the science stream program of this examination as well as qualify the Common Entrance Test conducted by the government of Karnataka.

Only recently, the PUC Board of Karnataka declared the first-year PUC examinations public in order to zero in on low scoring students and help them improve their average scores. About 40% of the students generally qualify the examination and a meagre 1.5% obtain a score beyond 85 %. Students who have finished the PUC in science stream can seek enrollment in any specialist course such as pharmacy, nursing, engineering, medicine, agriculture, etc. They can also seek enrolment for a B.Sc. degree program. Admission to these degree programs depends on much upon the marks obtained in PUC examinations. Students who qualify in the Commerce stream may seek enrollment in B.Com or BBM degree programs.
