Sir

Sub: Ban on the use of loudspeakers for religious purposes

Through the column of your prestigious national daily, I urge the authorities to ban the use of loudspeakers for religious purposes.

I am a resident of DaribaKalan, Chandni Chowk, Delhi. The biggest nuisance that the residents of this area face today is the problem of noise pollution. The playing of loudspeakers at night plays havoc with the peace and tranquillity of the place. This part of Old Delhi possesses a composite communal culture. But all these religious communities compete with one another to cause maximum noise pollution.

The playing of loudspeakers for religious purposes at night is a big nuisance. On several days many people have to spend sleepless nights. The worst sufferers are the old and sick people. Students are also the victims of this nuisance. They can’t concentrate on their studies. We hope that the government will put a blanket ban on the use of loudspeakers at night. Even during the day, the maximum level of sound should be fixed. Immediate and effective steps are necessary to restore peace and tranquillity in the area.

Yours faithfully

Anup Singh
