Contentment

Contentment is indeed, a great virtue. It is the secret of true happiness. Many people are mostly running after money. Such people lead a life of stress, strain and tension which harms their nerves and they suffer from several serious ailments such as high blood pressure, heart attack, paralytic stroke, diabetes, etc.

A man’s real worth cannot be judged from the amount of money he has or wealth and property he has accumulated through several dubious means. A man, who wants too much wealth, has also to adopt several dishonest methods and thus he loses his character and becomes a model of corruption. In fact, he degenerates into a low, dehumanized brute who has no respect for law, love, sympathy and compassion in life. He becomes ruthless and becomes devoid of all spiritual virtues which sustain humanity and differentiate man from animals.

On the other hand, a man contented with his lot is a happy man. He has a balanced mind. He has in him the spirit of love, sympathy, cooperation and mutual adjustment.

It is not that man should not work hard and strive for a good life, but, as we know, fruits of even hard work are always unpredictable and may not always be upto our expectations. In such a situation, a man who lacks the spirit of contentment loses his peace of mind and gets excited or worry unnecessarily. Contentment is the virtue which keeps a man happy and in high spirits in all conditions and circumstances.
