She has got a Masters in Political Science, LLB from Delhi University and a PhD degree from IIT Delhi. She was also a great tennis player. She is also a noted author. Kiran Bedi became the first woman officer in the elite Indian Police Service and the most memorable moment of her career came when she served as the Inspector General of Asia’s biggest-Jail -the Tihar Jail in 1993. She introduced many classes and programmes for the inmates of the Jail on the basis of education, meditation, Yoga, dramas and games. Kiran Bedi has won many awards – the Presidents Gallantry Award (1979).
