CHAPTER24: Summary (The Plan That Failed)
Dr Kemp saw some men coming up to the house. He tried to keep Griffin busy all this while by asking about his plans. Griffin said that he wanted to get out of the country to a much warmer place. It would not be that difficult for an invisible man. But Marvel had run away with his books and money and the books were vital and he wanted them back. It was difficult to get to Marvel, who had locked himself up in jail for his own safety.
Griffin said that running into Dr Kemp had made him change his plans. He was now thinking of Dr Kemp as his accomplice. He further talked about the purposes for which they could use his invisibility. Finally, he confided in Dr Kemp his plan to establish a ‘Reign of Terror.’
Just then, sounds were heard from downstairs. Dr Kemp knew that it was the police and he tried to distract Griffin but Griffin realised that Dr Kemp had betrayed him. He took his clothes off, hit Dr Kemp as hard as he could and escaped before anyone could make a move.
 Q1. How did Dr Kemp’s plan to get the Invisible Man arrested fail?
Ans. Even before Dr Kemp had heard of the sinister plan of the Invisible Man, he had decided to turn him over to the police. He had written a note to Colonel Adye informing him about his presence the very night Griffin had come into his house. Griffin was narrating the incidents that had led to his invisibility and the events leading to his encounter with Dr Kemp when he saw some men coming up to the house and he tried to keep Griffin busy by asking him about Griffin’s plans. Just then, sounds were heard from downstairs. Dr Kemp knew that it was the police and he tried to divert Griffin’s attention. When Griffin tried to open the door, he blocked him. In an instant, Griffin realised that Dr Kemp had betrayed him. He took his clothes off, hit Dr Kemp as hard as he could and before anyone could make a move, he made his escape from Dr Kemp’s house.
