Subject – No Street Lights โ Welcome to Accidents
Sir
Kindly allow me to air through your columns one grave hazard being faced by the residents of Kanishka Co-operative Group Housing Society, Indira Nagar. There are no street lights on the main road leading to this colony. It is winter and the road gets very dark after seven in the evenings. There always remains a danger of some major accidents since it is a very busy
road and all sorts of vehicles and pedestrians keep going up and down the road. Often people have to go out with torches in their hands. Then it looks as if they were living in a primitive village rather than in a modern cosmopolitan city. The residents have approached the Nagar Nigam time and again but nothing has been done so far. It is requested that proper lighting arrangements should be provided along this road so as to save the residents from any major mishap. It is hoped that these lines will help to stir the authorities to some sort of action.
Yours truly
Akanksha

SubjectโAccidents due to Open Manholes
Sir
Kindly -allow me to air through your columns one grave hazard being faced by the residents of the Press Apartments. The main road leading to this colony has three manholes that have no cover over them. They remain
open all through the day and night. As a result, there have been frequent accidents, particularly during the dark nights. It is winter these days and the road gets enveloped in darkness after seven in the evenings. The entire area gives a ghastly look. Children and women living in the area are scared of moving out alone during the dark hours. Anti-social elements keep prowling the road looking for mischief. The residents of the area have approached the Nagar Nigam time and again but nothing has been done so far. It is hoped that these lines would stir the authorities to some sort of action. The manholes need to be covered immediately, and proper lighting arrangements should be made along the sides of the road.

ย Sir
Kindly allow me to express through your columns my views about the need for environmental awareness. Environmental pollution is the biggest problem facing modern man. All advancement becomes useless if a man
does not get the very basic necessity of life, i.e. fresh and pure air. And only trees can do this service to man. Unluckily man, in his ignorance, has so far been destroying his very benefactors. There was a time when 50% of the Indian soil, was covered with forests. But man, in his greed, has reduced it to a mere 8% now. Only recently has our government become aware of the gravity of this problem. Various steps have been taken to keep the environment free from pollution. More attention is being paid to afforestation. The unauthorised felling of trees is being checked. Scientists are developing methods to minimise the effect of smoke let out by our autos and chimneys. In fact, environmental awareness is a social necessity. It is not only the duty of the government, but also a social responsibility of each and every individual to help in keeping the environment free from pollution. It is a service not only to oneself but also to the entire humanity.

Sir
I shall feel obliged if you kindly publish the following few lines in the ‘Letters to the Editor’ column of your esteemed paper.
Some beggars, no doubt, deserve our sympathy. They are handicapped.
ย Begging should be abolished by law. It should be made a punishable offence. The government should open asylums for those beggars who are really helpless. Able-bodied beggars should be forced to work. If they go without work, they must also go without food. We should have no sympathy for such impostors. We should not encourage them by giving alms. People can thus play a big role in ending this evil.

Sir

ย Corrupt and unscrupulous politicians are the root-cause of indiscipline in our educational institutions. They lead the innocent students astray in order to gain their selfish ends. They instigate the students to create problems of law and order. Most of the strikes in our schools and colleges are the acts of hired hooligans.
ย It is the duty of teachers and parents to keep the students on the right path if the nation is to be saved.
