Once in a jungle there lived a lion. It was very cruel and killed many innocent animals every day. One day all the animals of the jungle decided to devise a plan to kill the lion.
There was a rabbit among these who offered to give a wise idea. He told the animals, “Friends! do as I tell you. Go to the lion and tell him that one of us would volunteer to be his prey every day, and he need not take pains to come out of his den.” The animals agreed and conveyed the message to the lion adding that a rabbit has offered to be his prey the next day.
The rabbit prepared himself to go to the lion. But deliberately he took a lot of time to reach the lion which was almost swooning out of hunger. As the rabbit stood in front of him crying, the lion asked him, “Why have you come late? Don’t you want me to eat you? Why are you crying?” The rabbit said amidst sobs, “0 brave leaders, I feel it a privilege to be your food. But as I was coming I heard a sound from a well and looking inside I found a lion. He was much bigger and ferocious than you. He asked me where I was going. When I said I’m coming to you as a prey he said you’re the fool to have a small animal like me for prey. And he challenged your powers saying if you’re very strong, you’ll hunt an animal like him and not me.
“The lion was provoked by these words. He told the rabbit to take him to the lion inside the well. Thinking his own reflection inside as the other lion he roared, “Hey! you, do you think I’m a coward? Let me show you how strong I’m. Today you’ll be my food.” Saying this, the lion jumped inside the deep well.
