Summary
One day Flimnap, Skyrris and a few other dignitaries conspired against Gulliver. They prepared articles of impeachment against him for treason and other crimes. The man who visited Gulliver produced for his information a copy of the articles of impeachment.
Gulliver went through the documents. He found that he had been charged with the following irregularities.
1.He had urinated within the precincts of a royal palace.
2.He had refused to seize the remaining ships of the Emperor of Blefuscu.
3.He had held secret discussion with the ambassadors of the court of Blefuscu.
4.He had made up his mind to visit the court of Blefuscu after having received only a verbal permission from the emperor of Lilliput.
These articles showed that Flimnap and others wanted Gulliver to be sentenced to death for these charges.
One of Gulliver’s well-wishers, Reidresal, who had heard about this, suggested that instead of being put to death, Gulliver should be merely blinded in both eyes. Even in the state of blindness, he would be useful to the emperor. Gulliver also learnt that the people had informed the emperor that the expenses of feeding Gulliver would one day reduce the country to bankruptcy. Gulliver also learnt that the empress too had instigated the emperor. She was unhappy with Gulliver because the latter had extinguished fire in her apartment by urinating.
In the light of the information gathered by Gulliver, he understood that living in Lilliput was not safe for him. The best course for him would be to slip away from Lilliput and take shelter in Blefuscu. Gulliver knew that If he wanted he could bring about a lot of destruction in Lilliput. But he did not want to violate the solemn VOW he had taken to remain sincere to the emperor. Therefore Gulliver, one day, stole away from Lilliput. He waded through the intervening channel and reached Blefuscu. He was welcomed by the emperor and his men. Gulliver too kissed the hands of the emperor and the empress.
