Class-8 13. Speech Writing : ‘Capital Punishment’

The death penalty is the most severe practice. Many other punishments do not involve physical pain. So is capital punishment justified? Should we believe in an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth and a life for a life? Sometimes innocent persons might be put to death? Write a speech on ‘Capital Punishment’.

Ans. Dear Friends,

My topic is ‘Capital Punishment’. Capital punishment is an offspring of the philosophy of an eye for an eye. Our civilized society has diluted all other punishments and now it is time that we abolish the barbaric, notorious and severe practice of capital punishment. Sometimes innocent persons might be put to death. Can we bring them back to life? Is the executioner not a murderer himself?

Many a time not the person but extenuating circumstances like emotional trauma, cruelty and lack of love are responsible to make him a murderer. Should the extenuating circumstances not be considered while awarding the punishment? Has capital punishment eliminated further murders? We must give a murderer a chance to reform himself. But for habitual killers, fanatics and terrorists, the death penalty is a must. Thus, we must be very cautious and judicious while inflicting capital punishment, though it is barbaric. Thanks.
