The Duck and The Kangaroo Class 9 Character Sketch

The Duck

The Duck admires other animals for qualities that she herself does not have. I really admire the Kangaroo’s hopping ability. She is far-sighted and has an analytical mind which she uses to solve her problems for example, with woollen socks, cloak, and cigar she dealt with the problem of wet feet and cold weather. The duck is an optimist, who says in the story that she doesn’t indulge in self-pity over what life has offered her. She loves adventure, and wishes to travel to far off and exotic places. So, she approached the Kangaroo, and asked him to take her on a trip. The duck has a cheerful disposition, and gets excited about little joys and achievements.

The Kangaroo

The Kangaroo is very sensitive and doesn’t like to take decisions hastily. When the Duck asks him to take her on a ride, he slows down to think about it before agreeing or saying no. He doesn’t say no quickly or accept quickly. The Kangaroo and the Duck have a realistic discussion, which creates honesty between the two. The Kangaroo is worried about taking her along because her feet are cold. The discussion ends with both characters feeling an honest friendship, which makes them happier.

The Duck and The Kangaroo Rhyme Scheme

The Duck and The Kangaroo Literary Devices

Refrain

The refrain is a repeated lyric or verse that can be found in poems, and it can function to add music to the poem, emphasize certain core words or ideas, or unify the narration. The repetition of “Said the Duck to the Kangaroo” throughout the poem makes it a refrain. This repetition accentuates the urgency of the Duck’s desires, and also her persistence.
