Subject: Poor Enrollment of Girls in Primary and Upper Primary School

Editor,

Through the column of your esteemed daily, I would like to draw the kind attention of the concerned authorities and common masses towards the state of female literacy in India.

India is a country where the majority of its population is below the age of 35. It is a country of young people. Consequently, education is a service that can play a big role in cultivating the youth of the nation. Unfortunately, a lot POOR ENROLLMENT OF GIRLSof gender disparity exists in our country. The birth of a male child is celebrated with aplomb while the birth of a female child is lamented. The statistics reveal that out of the total number of children enrolled in schools in the year 1999-2000, only 43.6% of girls were enrolled in primary school and 40.4% were enrolled in upper primary school. In the year 2004-2005. Only 46.7% of girls were enrolled in primary school and 44.43% were enrolled in upper primary school. These figures go to show that female literacy has a long way to go in India.

It is imperative that the government takes steps to ensure better participation of the female child in education. It is also important to change conservative social attitudes towards the girl child’s education. Like Jawaharlal Nehru once said – “By educating a woman, you are educating an entire family.

Yours sincerely,

♦ Indians spend life’s saving on weddings.
♦ Wedding market in India is approximately I, 50.000 crores per year.
♦ India also hosts one of the biggest armies of starving people in the world.
♦ No wastage is more condemnable than wastage of food.
♦ The responsibility of the guests to limit the size of the servings according to their appetite.

Subject: Colossal wastage of food in lavish Indian weddings.

Sir/Madam

Through the column of your esteemed daily, I would like to draw the kind attention of the concerned authorities and common masses towards Colossal wastage of food in lavish Indian weddings. We all talk of changingFOOD WASTAGE our country for betterment but how little do we do in this regard. Out of so many things that go unnoticed in our dear country, here is one issue that I wish to chalk out. it is strange how Indians spend life’s savings at their weddings.

The wedding market in India is flourishing, with approximately I.50, 000  crores per year. The shocking pan is that all this wastage is happening when our own country. India. is a host of the biggest armies of starving people in the world. Such wastage should be censured and people should be educated against wastage of food in such a manner. In social functions and gatherings, guests should not squander food by piling up their plates excessively. The size of the servings should be limited according to the appetite. Besides, the hosts should also respond by giving the caterers the exact number of guests to arrive so that the food is cooked accordingly and there is no wastage.

I cannot help but point out as to how people do not even bother to use ‘R.S.V.P.’. Which means “please respond”, a French phrase, to confirm their visit on being invited? Thus, the host, not sure of the number of guests to arrive, prepares food in abundance leading to inevitable wastage. Indian marriages are not just famous for their traditions and customs but also because of their grand fiestas. I hope that the new generation understands the gravity of the situation and abandons old fashions and deals with such issues practically.

Thanking you

Subject: The tourism industry needs a boost

Sir,

Through the columns of your esteemed daily. I would like to bring to light the issue of the requirement of the boost in the tourism industry.

We know that tourism is necessary for every country; It is a major source ofTOURISM income for both. the locals and the government. But in India, tourism has not been given its due. With only an average of 4 million tourists annually. India is way behind countries like Russia and Singapore. Increasing tourists will increase employment in the tourism industry and eventually increase the quality of life of thousands.

It is high time that tourism is given its long-awaited due. We need to design schemes to keep our tourists safe and happy. The monuments and other tourist spots should be preserved. Extensive work should be done on the cleanliness and beautification of the country so as to make it attractive for foreign tourists. The government needs to improve the hotels’ industry for the convenience of tourists. Moreover, every citizen should put forth his/ her hospitable nature towards the tourist so that they do not leave our country disappointed.

Yours sincerely.

Subject: Importance of discipline in life

Respected Sir,

Through the columns of your esteemed newspaper, I would like to focus attention on the fading importance of disciplined life among the youth of today. I feel that discipline is a life-long learning process.

IMPORTANCE OF DISCIPLINETill we live with our parents we do not have total control over our lifestyle. The real training starts when people are young since that is when they gain the freedom to live their life in their way. Even nature and all the life-processes follow discipline for their smooth running.

Otherwise, the lack of systematic and controlled behaviour will lead to total chaos. Similarly, we need to follow a timetable where we can practice all the important aspects of human life. Parental counselling and constant motivation may help youngsters adopt discipline in their lives. Thus, we can say that self-discipline is the stepping towards success.

Yours truly,

Subject: Safety Measures for Pilgrims

Sir,

Through the esteemed columns of your newspaper, I would like to aware the masses and the government to the plight of pilgrims and suggest some measures for the safety and well-being of the Pilgrims. As we all know India is a religious country and people have a strong attachment with their religious feelings. Religious fairs and congregations are frequently held inPILGRIMS our country. We read about disastrous happenings that take place in such fairs in the form of big fires, stampedes, etc. in which hundreds of pilgrims die. This all happens because of mismanagement and maladministration.

A number of measures like the trans-shipment facility and deployment of rescue teams for the evacuation of people have been initiated for the Char Dham Yatra. The gel mat technology was also being used in roads cross-crossing the holy shrines. This latest technology lets water seep in the ground while allowing people a smooth passage even if roads are covered with slush and debris due to the rain-induced landslides.

Labourers have also been deployed at different places so that roads could be immediately cleared of debris in case of landslips. The communication network has also been strengthened. “Besides, intense patrolling is also being carried out in. In Uttarakhand, the state government has decided to issue biometric cards and registering the mobile numbers of pilgrims visiting the state for the Char Dham Yatra, so that a timely weather forecast can be provided. Keeping in mind the health of the pilgrims a mobile medical team will also be stationed at every 10-15km along the route.

I hope these suggestions will really help in the future endeavours of the government for pilgrims.

Yours sincerely,

 Sir,

Through the columns of your esteemed paper, I want to show my grave concern on road accidents especially in the metropolitan cities of India. The given data represents that the metropolitan city of Delhi has the maximum rate of road accidents. It is because the crowd and the running traffic do not follow the traffic rules.

ROAD ACCIDENTSThey do not respect the red signals and the policeman standing on the crossing. They drive recklessly and are often drunk. The roads have become death traps and none is safe. In fact, there is no road or highway which is immune from reckless drivers. The youngsters try to show off on the roads and try daring devil acts.

They overtake from the right and left as all are in a hurry. They think they are the ‘monarchs’ of the pedestrians or the homeless people sleeping on the pavements. Even the police care little for such lapses. There are no proper sidewalls for protection. The law enforcing machinery is too slow to wake. It is in the interest of all that we should be aware of the traffic rules. While plying our vehicles we should follow the motto “Live and let live.

Yours faithfully

People also leave the taps running after drinking water which leads to a lotWASTAGE OF WATER of water wastage. Water is a precious resource and we should use it judiciously. The government should enrol some plumbers who regularly maintain the taps.

The general public should also take steps to minimize water wastage. Schools, colleges and housing societies should organize meets and spread awareness about the importance of water in our lives. It is difficult to have access to clean drinking water in many parts of our country. We should not take our blessings for granted.

Sir,

Through the column of your esteemed daily, I would like to draw the kind attention of the concerned authorities and common masses towards Grave concern over converting the sports complex into the residential complex. I RESIDENTIAL COMPLEXam writing this letter to express my resentment at D.D.A.’s decision to build houses on the plot of land previously resented for building a sports complex.

Today, India stands nowhere in the sports field at an international level. This is evident from the poor performance of our sports meets. During the last so many years, India has not produced even a single sportsman who could bring laurels to the country. This is due to the fact that we fail to prepare our sportsmen at the grass-root level the way sportsmen and sportswomen are trained in China, Japan or Russia.

We don’t provide proper facilities to the young aspirants. The decision of D.D.A. to build houses on the piece of land previously reserved for building a sports complex has come as a rude shock to all sports-lovers. It has been strongly resented by many famous Indian Sportsmen. I appeal to D.D.A. to review its decision and build a sports complex as it was decided 10 years back. I am sure this sports complex will go a long way In promoting sports culture in the country.

Sub: Bad condition of roads

Sir/Madam

Through the esteemed columns of your newspaper, I wish to highlight the bad condition of roads in Rajendra Nagar. Citizens pay a number of taxes to ensure the smooth running of the government.

A government should provide basic facilities like good, clean roads and a safe environment for the citizens. In our locality, the roads have not beenBAD CONDITIONS OF ROADS repaired for the past 3 years. There are pitfall and breakages which cause accidents every other day. The repair work done by government agencies is shoddy and does not last for more than a few months.

The situation is aggravated in monsoons when many people get injured and have accidents due to the worn-out roads. The RWAs have made numerous appeals to the governing bodies but no concrete action has been taken. The issue needs to be addressed urgently before the onset of the monsoons.
