Culture is not only a matter or ideas; it finds its expression through conduct and behaviour in society. Contact with foreign cultures — Mughal and European— have not seriously affected the basic culture of our society. We still hold our hands in greeting and touch the feet of elders. In fact, our family life, social courtesies and norms of conduct have maintained their identity. No less significant characteristic of Indian culture is the world of beauty in music, literature, architecture and other arts. Art in its widest sense is the creative expression of great cultures. The greatness and glory of Indian music are unequalled. India has also produced great literature in which are found the nearest expressions of the ideals and aspirations of India.
