Short Summary of the Chapter: A Pact with the Sun

Saeeda’s mother was sick for a long time. She had a fever, cough, and joint pain. Many doctors gave her medicine, but nothing worked. She became weak and stayed in a small, dark room. She was not allowed to eat normal food or go out in the sun.

Later, a good doctor came. He gave her strong medicine and said she must eat well and sit in the sun every day from 8 to 9 in the morning. He said fresh air and sunlight were more helpful than medicine.

But the next few days were cloudy. Saeeda felt sad for her mother. She saw a little sunlight one day and asked it sweetly to come fully the next morning to help her mother.

The sunrays heard her request. One small sunray reminded the others about Saeeda. All the sunrays then came down, breaking through the thick clouds.

Saeeda shouted happily, “Amma, the sun is here!” Her mother sat in the sun after a long time. She felt fresh and happy. Slowly, she became healthy again.

Now, she sits in the sun every day and breathes fresh air, just like the doctor advised.

Detailed Summary of the Chapter: A Pact with the Sun

1. Saeeda’s Mother Was Very Sick: Saeeda’s mother had been ill for a long time. She had a fever, cough, and pain in her body and joints. Many doctors came to treat her. Sometimes she felt better but soon became sick again. Her food was stopped, and she was made to stay in a small, dark room. The doors and windows were kept shut. She got no sunlight and no fresh air. This made her weaker.

2. A New Doctor Brings Hope: One day, her condition became worse. Her family and neighbours told her to call a specialist. She was poor but agreed. She sold some jewellery to pay the doctor’s fees. The specialist came, gave good medicine, and gave her useful advice. He said, “Eat everything — chapati, vegetables, milk, fruits. But more than that, sit in the sun every day from 8 to 9 a.m. Fresh air and sunshine are more helpful than medicine.”

3. People Start Arguing: Some people agreed with the doctor. Some said fresh air and sun could make her sicker. Saeeda’s mother was too tired to talk. But she believed in the doctor. She said, “Move my bed. I will sit in the sun from tomorrow.”

4. The Sun Hides Behind Clouds: The next morning, the sky was full of clouds. It stayed the same the next day too. Saeeda’s mother became sad. She said, “How will I get well if the sun doesn’t come out?” Saeeda was playing nearby. She heard her mother and felt worried.

5. Saeeda Talks to the Sunrays: Later, Saeeda saw a small ray of sunlight in the courtyard. She ran to her mother, but people stopped her. It was cold and late. Saeeda went back and used her special child language. She spoke to the last sunray. She said, “Please come tomorrow with warmth. My mother needs you.”

6. The Sunrays Make a Promise: The next day, the sunrays wanted to come to Earth, but clouds blocked the way. One small ray said, “I promised Saeeda. I must go.” Other rays agreed and told the sun they couldn’t break their promise. They all moved together and broke through the clouds.

7. A Bright Morning and a Happy Mother: Saeeda saw the sunlight and shouted, “Amma, the sun is here!” Her mother came outside and sat in the sun after many months. Her face looked fresh. She smiled and kissed Saeeda. She felt better already. The sun, the fresh air, the flowers, and the birds made her feel happy again.

8. A New Life Begins: Now Saeeda’s mother is fully healthy. She still follows the doctor’s advice. Every day, she sits in the sun and breathes fresh air. It became her habit.

This story shows how faith, love, nature, and a little girl’s wish helped bring light and health back to her mother’s life.
