Sir,
Sub: Evils of Street Begging
Through the column of your esteemed daily, I would like to draw the kind attention of the concerned authorities and common masses towards against the evils of street begging.
“It is a matter of shame that even after many years of independence our roads and streets are still infested with beggars. One cannot escape their pleadings for alms. They seem to be omnipresent. It is a great nuisance to have beggars around you at the bus stops. Railway station, market- compound and religious places. Even when one tries to avoid them, it is difficult to get out of their clutches. Sometimes these beggars embarrass you and you have to part with some coins even against your will. If these beggars happen to spot some foreigners, they would not leave them until they force them to give them alms. What impression of our country these foreigners will take back.
“Some of the beggars appear to be quite healthy and stout. It seems they have found begging to the most convenient method of earning money. I feel that the Government must ban begging and haul the beggars. The healthy beggars should be forced to work for their livelihood. If the eminence of begging is not checked immediately, it will turn out to be a big social evil in times to come. Public cooperation is solicited to curb this evil from our society.
Yours faithfully
Sunny Mehta

Sir
Sub:- The Problem of Begging
I shall feel obliged if you kindly publish the following few lines in the ‘Letters to the Editor’ column of your esteemed paper.
Some beggars, no doubt, deserve our sympathy. They are handicapped. They are unable to earn their living. But the pity is that most of the beggars are able-bodied. Begging has become a profession for them. They find it the easiest way to earn their living. Some of them are criminals. They beg only to hide their crimes. This large scale begging is a slur on the fair name of our country.
Begging should be abolished by law. It should be made a punishable offence. The government should open asylums for those beggars who are really helpless. Able-bodied beggars should be forced to work. If they go without work, they must also go without food. We should have no sympathy for such impostors. We should not encourage them by giving alms. People can thus play a big role in ending this evil.
Yours truly

Sir
Sub: Beggar Problem
Through the column of your esteemed daily, I would like to draw the kind attention of the concerned authorities and common masses towards Begging has been banned in India by law. Yet wherever we go, we come across pestering beggars of all kinds. We find beggars in trains, buses, at railway stations, bus stands, taxi stands, outside religious places, and in markets.
Some of these beggars are physically challenged and others are destitute. But many others are hale and hearty and just parasites. A few among them are thieves, robbers, burglars, pickpockets, and cheats.
Strict implementation of Anti-Begging laws should be made and the genuine ones among beggars should be rehabilitated in some suitable way.
Thank you.
Yours truly
Sonia

Sir,
Sub: Nuisance of Beggars
Will you please publish the following few lines in the ‘Action Line’ column of your esteemed paper regarding the nuisance of beggars in the Capital city of India?
Delhi is the capital of India. It has all the nice things of life in plenty. Here the very seat of government holds sway. Foreign dignitaries visit it all year round. They frequent the bazaars and the lanes of the town. But what a shameful and sad panorama meets their eyes. The beggars throng all these places day and night. They are a curse on the fair name of society. They beg and implore for alms in every way. They are of all ages. They are both men and women. Children and boys of very tender age are kidnapped. Their hands, legs, and feet are broken. Then they are made to beg and arouse kindness and sympathy in the minds of the people.
It is a slur. It is a serious blot. Society must rise to the occasion and solve this problem at once. When we make big claims of progress in every field, then why this evil be permitted to remain alive The Government must put an end to it and rehabilitate all the beggars. They can become very useful to society. It will favour with these hapless. Let us do something for them. It is a real virtue. It is true humanity.
Thanks,
Yours faithfully

5. When we give money to the beggars, we indirectly provide them with the indulgence. You want to request the Local Councilor to involve the beggars near the local temple into some profile that you have already thought of. Write a letter to the editor asking for awakening publication in the National Daily in about 100-120 words.

Sir,
Subject: To improve the plight of beggars
Through the columns of your esteemed newspaper, I would like to draw the kind attention of the Local Councilor of Srinagar towards the increasing number of beggars near the local temples and other religious places. They have become a menace to the people coming for worship. These people show their fake bandages or small children having fallen ill and ask for money. When we give money to them, we indirectly provide them indulgence and hence their number is increasing day-by-day. People of all age groups can be seen around the temples.
It’s high time that some strict steps should be taken against them. I would like to give a few suggestions. The small children, boys and girls should be encouraged to get an education. A small school should be opened inside the temple premises in order to provide them with free education, books and food. The elders should be volunteered for safekeeping of shoes or belongings of the pilgrims. They can be involved in Prashad distribution or making lines of people. They should be given a fixed amount for their services. These would not only eradicate beggary but also make them independent.
Thanking you
Yours sincerely,
ABC.
