Exercise-1

Combine the following pair of sentences, using the sentence connectors given in bracket:

1. He knows you. I know you better. (than)

2. He came here. He has been ill. (since)

3. Suman turned on the radio. Ravi was taking a shower. (while)

4. You are my friend. I’ll do anything for you. (since)

5. My friend will go to school. After that, he will come to my house. (before)

6. Don’t leave the class. You will get permission to do so. (until)

7. A mango tree is tall. A coconut tree is taller. (than)

8. He pushed the accelerator. The car gained speed. (since)

9. I will come back soon. Do not move from here. (till)

10. Wood is heavy. Iron is heavier. (than)

Answers:-

1. I know you better than him.

2. He has been ill since he came here.

3. Suman turned on the radio while Ravi was taking a shower.

4. Since you are my friend I’ll do anything for you.

5. Before coming to my house my friend will go to school.

6. Don’t leave the class until you get permission to do so.

7. A coconut tree is taller than a mango tree.

8. Since he pushed the accelerator the car gained speed.

9. Do not move from here till I come back.

10. Iron is heavier than wood.

1. I cannot decide on the case. I will hear both the parties. (until)

2. It was raining. We stayed indoors and watched television. (since)

3. He became penniless. He spent the money recklessly. (until)

4. The Swamiji was preaching. Many people in the audience were sleeping. (while)

5. We were playing hockey. A marriage procession passed that way. (while)

6. My grandmother came to Delhi. Three months have passed. (since)

7. Let us wait. The rain will stop soon. (until)

8. He went to Delhi. He was asked to do so. (as)

9. A car hit the beggar. He was crossing the road. (while)

10. I will return. Do not leave till then. (until)

1. She won the first prize. She was the best speaker. (since)

2. She is hungry. She weeps. (when)

3. We have no money. We cannot buy a new dress. (since)

4. I was playing. I lost my purse. (while)

5. You did not do your homework. You were punished. (because)

6. There was pin-drop silence. He began speaking. (as)

7. You will not get the telephone number. You will put the coin in the slot first. (unless)

8. I went to school. I was ill. (although)

9. I left my native place. It is now five years. (since)

10. The sun rose. The fog disappeared. (as)
