 Q.1. What does the author notice one Sunday afternoon? What is his mother’s reaction? What does she do?

 Ans. One Sunday afternoon the author notices smoke pouring in through the seams of the ceiling. At first the mother comes out of the house with her son. Then she runs back into the house and comes out carrying a small metal box full of important documents. Then she again runs back into the house to collect something other.

 Q.2. Why does he break down in tears after the fire?

Ans. After the fire for sometime he was thinking just about his mother. But when his mother was okay and the fire was finally out, he thought about his new school and lovely cat. His books had burned and he could not find his cat anywhere. So he breaks down in tears.

Q.3. Why is the author deeply embarrassed the next day in school? Which words show his fear and insecurity?

 Ans. The next day he is deeply embarrassed in school because his backpack had burned in the fire and it was his life. The words ‘Everything felt surreal and I wasn’t sure what was going to happen’ show his fear and insecurity.

Q.4. The cat and the author are very fond of each other. How has this been shown in the story? Where was the cat after the fire? Who brings it hack and how?

Ans. The cat and the author love each other very much. The author says that dead or alive he could not imagine leaving that place without knowing his cat. The cat was much frightened by the fire and ran a mile away. She too remained sad in the absence of her master. A kind lady brings it back to the author. She had to work hard to bring the cat to the author

Q.5. What actions of the schoolmates change the author’s understanding of life and people and comfort hint emotionally? Flow does his loneliness vanish and how does he start participating in life?

Ans. The schoolmates make a collection for the author. They buy school supplies, notebooks, all kinds of different clothes jeans, tops, and sweat suits. This changes a whole vision of life for the author. He makes many friends and his loneliness vanishes. His house is rebuilding and he takes interest in the planning of the rooms. His friends arc with him.

Q.6. What is the meaning of “My cat was back and so was I”? Had the author gone anywhere? Why does he say that he is also back?

Ans. No. the author had not gone anywhere. His cat was missing after the fire tragedy. He thought his life dull and boring without his cat. When the cat comes back to him the things that life has come back to him.
