It was the first day of my life when my father admitted me to a city school where only children who topped in their school board got admission. It was an inter-college and the children had come from other high schools.
I was bred and educated in a village school. Our village had only one school which had classes up to X standard. With dedicated teachers, I could score high marks in my class X examination and that had secured me a seat in this city school.
Though all the children were new to this school, I felt somewhat low amidst them. I being a village bred girl, my parents had even got me admitted in the school hostel.
I lacked in confidence. As I was looking around helplessly to locate my classroom, a girl came towards me and asked me who I was and what I wanted. I told her that I am a PCMB student and so would like to know my class. The girl directed me to the class and left the place after I had thanked her. Somehow I felt a friendly attitude in her. From among so many students, she was the one who came forward to help me. After she left I felt bad that I forgot to get details about her. The first day passed smoothly with a teacher and students’ introduction. We were given the syllabus for our course and were then told to get books by the next day, as it was already late. In my class, I was the only student who was yet to get books which were available only in the city. I came to know from my classmates that the books had already gone out of stock. This started worrying me as I walked back to my room. I found my room bolted from inside. I knocked and found the same girl who directed me, opened the door. I was shocked and surprised and felt happy too that she was my senior and she too was in the PCMB. She assured me that she would help me to procure the books, and I could make use of her books. I felt that I was the happiest girl in the world to have her as my roommate.
