ASL Topic- Science in the Service of Man

Science in the Service of Man

(The following speech is perfect for 1 min. to 1.05 min)

The first scientist was the caveman who picked up a stone to kill a deer- he made something serve his purpose. Science made advancement in the sharpening of stones to serve as weapons, making fire by striking one stone against another. Man gradually made machines to serve him and today these machines are so much with us that we cannot do anything without them. Science is all around us. We are living in an age of science. It is difficult to think of human progress without scientific inventions. These inventions have brought about a great change in the life of a man. Wonderful inventions in medicine and surgery have made life healthier and happier. Diseases which were considered to be incurable in the past are today easily cured. Plastic surgery and transplant of such vital organs as heart and kidney are of great help. Inventions in the field of transport and communication have conquered time and space. Isn’t it thrilling to watch a cricket match being played in England or Australia in our drawing room telecasted with the help of satellite.

Q. Do you really think that science a help us without any harm?
A. Actually I am partially not convinced with your view as I think that science is a good servant but a bad master and it is up to us that we become the slaves of it or treat it as a servant. Excess of everything is bad.

ASL Topic- Value of Hard Work

Value of Hard Work

(The following speech is perfect for 1 min. to 1.05 min)

Nations flourish not on slogans but on hard and sustained work. This is truer today than at any other time in history, and truer of our Country than of any other. With increasing populations that tend to concentrate more and more in cities, problems have multiplied tenfold, and this is specially so in our country. Further, keeping these vastly increased population even at a tolerably good standard of living, we need more and more of technology and science, more and more discipline and team-work, and consequently, more and more work in schools, colleges, factories and fields in fact, in every walk of life including offices. The fact is that this is our necessity, not merely for progress, but for sheer survival. “Developed” nations even today work harder than we do. With them, work methodical, systematic work, carried out punctually and without external compulsion is a habit, very much as sloth, casualness, unpunctuality, the tendency to work less and demand more, are’ deeply ingrained habits with us. That is why Nehru’s slogan of “Aram Haram Hai” is perhaps the central need of today.

Q. How can the habits of hard work be inculcated among children?
A. People should be made to understand the disadvantages being lazy and idle. If we talk about the children, they should be given age appropriate responsibilities. Like maintaining their own belongings keeping their uniform ready, doing their home work etc. Timely supervision is also required.

The Need for Discipline in Life

(The following speech is perfect for 1 min. to 1.05 min)

The development of human personality , the progress of society , the advancement of civilization and culture depend on discipline in life. Discipline is training of mind and character. It enables man to obey the rules that he has himself made. To regulate his conduct and behavior for his own good and for the good for society. Wise parents and teachers inculcate discipline in their children from the very beginning. The child is allowed freedom within certain limits. The child is not free to do anything which is likely to harm his interest as an individual or as a member of the society. Obedience, co-operation avoidance of greed and selfishness , respect for elders , sense of service duty and responsibility are some of the major attributes of discipline which can be easily cultivated at a tender age . If a child is allowed unrestricted freedom and not subjected to any discipline in the beginning. He carries with him the infectious disease of  indiscipline and spreads its among those who happen to come into his contact.

Q. What is the best way to inculcate discipline in one’s life?
A. People should be made to understand the disadvantages indiscipline. If we talk about the children, they should be given age appropriate responsibilities. Like maintaining their own belongings keeping their uniform ready, doing their home work etc. Timely supervision is  also required.

ASL Topic- Role of chance in Examinations

Role of chance in Examinations

(The following speech is perfect for 1 min. to 1.05 min)

Why arc examinations such a terror? Perhaps because chance plays such a great part in them. The examination paper is like a lottery uncertain, undependable. The element of uncertainty and surprise is bound to shake the most confident examinee. Sometimes our nervousness is so great that we seem to forget our best prepared lessons. Before the examination, we feel sure of doing well, but once the question paper is before us, our mind becomes perfectly blank. We fail to recall our most memorised lessons. Some candidates even faint in the examination hail. The question paper springs a complete surprise. None of the sure hints over which we have spent days and nights appear in the examination. On the contrary, just those very topics, which we left out as unimportant and unexpected, stare us in the face. In Geography, we prepared the ‘map of Europe but we are required to draw a freehand map Asia and the question is compulsory. Surely the fates and their friend, the paper setter have played a cruel joke upon us.

Q. How do you think can we overcome the fear of examination?
A. Being attentive and proper planning can play a vital role to cope up with exam. Student should start preparation of exams as soon as date sheet is declared. When we don’t go with proper planning we are more likely to be depressed.

ASL Topic- Preservation of Wild Life

Preservation of Wild Life

(The following speech is perfect for 1 min. to 1.05 min)

Preservation of wild life has drawn the attention of the Indian Government as well as of many foreign Governments. They have realized that man has been very cruel to animals. He has been so cruel that many species of wild animals are extinct now and many are on the verge of extinction. The Royal Bengal Tiger , The great Indian Elephant, The Asiatic Lion, The Indian Bustard and the Siberian Crane , well known species of wild life in the country, face the danger of extinction. Man has always hunted animals for food, for adventure and for greed of money. He has killed lions tigers and crocodiles for their skin and elephants for their tusks. The public and the Government are aware of this fact, and decided to preserve them. Strict laws were passed prohibiting the killing of wild animals. In 1972 the central wild life act was passed. Trade in these species has also been subjected to certain rules. The Indian Board of Wild Life has also been formed to advice the government on wild life. There are some voluntary organizations also like The Bombay Natural History Society and the World Life Fund which have done commendable work in this direction.

Q.1 How can we prevent wildlife destruction?
A. Perhaps the greatest threat that many species  are facing is the widespread destruction of habitat. Deforestation, farming, over-grazing and development all result in irreversible changes—soil compaction, erosion, desertification, and alteration of local climatic conditions. Such land use practices vastly alter or even eliminate wildlife habitat. We should be encouraged enough to stop all this.

ASL Topic- National Integration- The Need of the Hour

National Integration- The Need of the Hour

(The following speech is perfect for 1 min. to 1.05 min)

hat does national integration means? It means the unity and solidarity of the country. National integration is a matter of great concern for us today. Our country is very vast; our people belong to different castes, creeds, and colours. They speak many languages. It has been difficult all along to hold them together. We lost our independence in the past because of these differences. Our history bears testimony to all this. Now, that we are free , it is our bounden duty to preserve our freedom in the face of internal dissentions and threats of aggression.
From time to time committees and commissions have been appointed to suggest measures to achieve this end. There has been an invisible thread of unity binding the different parts. Unity in diversity has been our strength. At the time of the Gandhian movement we united to win our freedom from foreigners Bharat Mata is still the idea uniting us. We all the citizens of India should stand united to achieve national security.

Q. What are the measures can be taken to remain united?
A.- We need to be tolerant as well as should think of the others also while working for ourselves.
Q. What do you mean by tolerant?
A. Tolerant means that we should deliberately practice or permit a thing to which one disapproves. One can meaningfully speak of tolerating as to bear or endure the practices of others.

ASL Topic- The Changing Face of Our Villages

The Changing Face of Our Villages

(The following speech is perfect for 1 min. to 1.05 min)

Our country is a land of villages. Seventy percent of the population of our country lives in villages. The progress and development of our country cannot be imagined without making concerted efforts to improve the lot of villagers and the quality of life in the villages. The architects of the modern India took note of the backwardness and horrifying conditions that gripped our villages in the past. As a result of the integrated rural development schemes. The condition of a large number of villages has changed significantly. No longer do the bane of mass illiteracy the devil of superstition, untouchability, and the snares of the village money –lenders afflict the life of our villagers. The frequent visits of epidemic to our villages are a story of the past. Some villages in our country have changed so much that it is difficult to guess what they might have been like some years ago.

Only recently, I saw the changed face of a village in the district of Western Uttar Pradesh. I was really amazed to see this village. The village lay about 6 Kms. From the bus station on the national highway. My friend had come to receive me. I went to his village on his tractor which sped fast on a pucca road. The bullock-carts seen on the way were different than that of past.

Qu1. Can you tell about some schemes the government is running to improve the situation of villages?
Ans.There are a lot of government schemes to improve the conditions of Indian Villages-
               Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana
               Swarnjayanti Gram Swarozgar Yojana
               Indira Aawas Yojna
Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act-2005
               National Social Assistance Programme

Qu.2- What can we personally do to change the faces of villages?
Ans.The best way to change the face of villages is to Explain the Government schemes to the villagers and inspire them to use them to the fullest.

ASL TOPIC- SECRET OF HAPPINESS

SECRET OF HAPPINESS

(The following speech is perfect for 1 min. to 1.05 min)

Happiness does not consist in riches. True wealth would be much better defined as ‘character’ for a one can only be happy when one is at peace with oneself. The richest men are often the most unhappy , since they do not realise that a man’s wealth does not consist in the abundance of things which he possesses; but in the sort of man that he is. The Greeks wrote over the entrance of one of their most famous temples the words- “Know Thyself.” They understood that in order to be happy, a man must face life honestly. He cannot expect to get if never gives. He cannot expect to be happy himself, if he never makes others happy. A man’s ‘life is of no importance or value at all, unless he succeeds in influencing, helping and encouraging those among whom he lives. For too many people are not living at all, but are just existing for themselves alone; they receive no happiness from life because they never give.

Q. According to you can one practice all the said aspects in life?
Ans. No doubt all this is difficult to follow but if one is determined one can achieve every goal and once these habits are practiced they will become habits, and if they come in practice life will become full of happiness.
